Five Things I Like Mondays

I've had quite a busy week this week, five things I have liked are:

Jumble Sales - I went to one on Wednesday morning and although all I bought was a cardigan and a book, it was fun searching through the tables of clothes seeing what there was to buy, and knowing that anything you find will be a bargain!

I love pub quizzes. This week I won 'The Pianist' on DVD, which made it extra good!

I went to see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, it was totally geeky and really funny.

Manchester - Eden

Eden in Manchester does a £5 pizza deal, all their pizzas are based on a country, and their Chinese pizza (Shredded aromatic duck, sliced spring onion & mozzarella on a hoi sin base) sounds a little unusual, but it is really really good.

I went to Yo Sushi for the first time this week. Any food that is delivered to me on a conveyor belt will impress me, but this stuff truly impressed me because it was delicious. I had 'Chocolate Mochi' for desert, which was so unexplainable that i'm not even going to try :)

Happy Birthday!

Today is my half birthday. 182 days since my last birthday, and 182 days till my next birthday.
I think everyone agrees that one of the best thing about birthdays is the cake? For some reason I have had NO cake today, which is a travesty (although i do have tiramisu in the fridge).

Anyway, in honour of my half birthday, here are some brilliant cake related things:

Pie cakes
(Each colour indicates the ingredients of the cake in percentages.)

And a cake saw to cut the cake into pieces, in case you don't feel like eating it all at once.

5 Things I Like Mondays

I've decided to make this week's '5 Things I Like Monday' more relevant to my actual life, so:

I died the ends of my hair purple/pink the other day, and i'm loving it.

I got this tea cup from TK Maxx for 30p! Bargain of the century! Although the cup and the saucer are actually attached (it's meant to be a plant pot) but i decided to turn it into a candle...

...while i was trying to turn it into a candle, i managed to fill the entire kitchen with smoke (all i did was put some tea lights in the oven, apparently this is not a good idea) Anyway, whilst trying to get rid of the smoke, i managed to burn my hand, so i am loving aloe vera plants and their soothing qualities.

I bought the Wagamama cookbook from amazon which arrived yesterday. I love wagamama food so i am excited to try cooking from it!

It was one of my friend's birthday, so we made this Nikon camera cake. It literally took hours and although it doesn't look quite as good as the picture we were modelling it on, i am still proud of it!

Holly Dyment

Some 'future house' inspiration - Holly Dyment, a 25 year old interior designer who seems to be quite well known in Canada. She is trained graphic designer and famous for her use of colour and i love her work!

Spray to Forget

I frequently find that certain smells instantly bring back memories and take me back to a different time in my life. I find it pretty weird because my memory is not very good, I can barely remember most of my childhood but a smell can actually bring back old emotions and just make me feel like i am back there again.

There is a certain smell of cigarettes, i don't know what they are, but when i smell them, i instantly think of my grandma, which is odd because when my grandma was alive, and i was quite young, i never had any idea that she smoked because she always hid it from us.

Anywayyyy, the reason for me typing all this is because i just found something that interested me, a spray that claims to allow you to forget memories. Apparently it works by "nudging the unconscious to release a difficult memory and replace it with a more appealing one". At first i thought it was just a giant joke. Maybe it is? It still interests me though, if smells can make me remember things so vividly, maybe it is possible for them to make me forget things too?

You can read more about the 'spray to forget' here.

Blogs

I thought I'd do a post about some of the blogs I follow. I check for new posts through bloglovin. You just add the blogs you want to follow, and it will notify you whenever one of them has updated. So much easier than checking each one individually and it also means you never miss out on a new post!

You can follow my blog here.

And here are some of my top blogs, in no particular order!

The personal blog of Elsie Flannigan, filled with craft projects, thrifty finds, photography, inspiration and other nice things :)

"Fashion, Fun and other Fancies."

The blog of a freelance photographer and street artist. Fun, colourful and cheery!

My good friend Nicola's blog, reviews and nice things that make me want to spend all my money.

All sorts of nice things for the home and life in general!

Colourful Kitchens

Denmark seems to be full of amazing little shops filled with bright and colourful homeware items. A lot of the shops had the same sort of selection of things, but it was all so cheerful and cute that i wanted it all! The main make of these items seemed to be 'Rice', they are a Danish company but their items are sold all over the world and you can check on their website for stockists near you. Here is a selection of my favourite items:

I also really wanted this 'nest' from Joseph Joseph which consists of 4 measuring cups, 1 small mixing bowl, 1 sieve, 1 colander and 1 large mixing bowl, but at £35 i thought it was a little steep when i don't even have a kitchen. Maybe one day!

Copenhagen

Hellooo. I know I've missed two '5 Things I Like Monday' posts BUT I have had a good excuse as I have been on holiday in Copenhagen (Denmark). I was planning on doing a post or two while I was away, but the internet connection in my apartment wouldn't connect so I did without!

Copenhagen was one of the nicest cities I have been to. Lots of bicycles flying about and lots of graffiti, cobbles, architecture and lots of art & design. Another thing that made me like the city so much was how safe I felt there. A lot of European cities I have been to have made me feel a bit uncomfortable, especially walking about at night but I felt safe in there. Almost everyone spoke English too which was good as my Danish is not good at all!

I'm really tired now after a week of walking what seemed like thousands of miles (my feet aren't used to it!) Plus a 3 hour cycling tour that left my bum feeling pretty bruised (although it was worth it) Here are a few of my photos, you can see the rest here if you are interested.

Quilling!

I've just been reminded of something i use to do when i was younger, quilling.
Quilling is basically just rolling strips of paper up and making pictures out of them. I probably got no more advanced than a simple flower, but check out these amazing examples by Yulia Brodskaya!
