Ninainvorm

I'm procrasta-blogging! It's too sunny outside (even though it is literally freezing) for me to be sitting inside piecing together jewellery, so I have decided to put my work on hold till this evening, and make the most of the sunshine to go for a brisk walk with Nicola.

Nic smells, and so she has to have a bath before she leaves the house, so to fill the time I did a bit of etsy browsing. I've got into etsy a lot recently, and have considered putting some of my treasurys on my blog, but alas I haven't yet figured out how to do that.

Anyway, the reason I am writing this blog post is to show the work of Ninainvorm, a Dutch designer maker.

I've had Nina's shop listed in my favorite shops for a while now, but today I found my way to her blog, which I have very much enjoyed reading. I think it's nice to be able find out a bit more about a designer after liking their work. How lucky we are to live in this modern age of online shops, links and blogs.

Now I must leave the computer and go outside.

So long!

Wall Art

I've spent the last hour cutting triangles out of paper,
and sticking them to my wall...

Painting Furniture

A couple of months ago I posted some furniture that I had bought with the dream of doing them up.

Yesterday I painted my chest of drawes, that was £14 from a charity shop.
It took a whole day and included getting told off my the kids next door for being too noisy when I was sanding so that they couldn't hear CBBC, and picking a blue paint that was too blue. I added a tube of black acrylic paint to the blue paint for the top coat, so it was more of a grey-ish blue, rather than a toy-box blue, and this is what I got:

I decided to leave the handles as they were, and sanded the shiny varnish off the legs but kept them wooden.
I'm considering spray painting both the handles and the legs the same colour though, maybe a turquoise/teal. What do you think?

Procrastination.

Hello Blog, long time no see!

My life is pretty busy at the moment. I'm in my last month of college, which means I should be doing lots of work, finishing my final major project and putting together my degree show. Unfortunately I have just had 2 weeks off for Easter, and with the lovely sunny weather we have been having, along side numerous bank holidays, it has been very hard to stay focussed.

Here is a bit of my college work, it is still work in progress, and hopefully it will progress a lot in the next 3 weeks (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek this is VERY scary!):

My horoscope amused me today by saying "It's in your nature to be creative and perhaps even a bit flighty - leaping from one great idea to the next without sticking to any one goal. This isn't nessisarily your standard way of doing things but with your bigger ideas you tend to get so excited and distracted that you find it hard to focus long enough to make any noteworthy progress".

My current procrastination technique is dreaming of furniture restoration, so much so that I have recently bought 3 pieces of furniture, which I am planning to do up so they look awesome and cool. I am by no means ditching my jewellery dreams, but once my deadline is over, I am looking forward to having a hiatus from it all, and getting stuck into this new hobby. Here are my purchases:

60's dresser and draws. £14 each from a charity shop.
I've not quite decided what i'm doing with these, but I'm fairly certain it will include powder blue paint. Maybe various shades of blue paint. I want to do something a little unusual with these, but i'm not sure what.

Telephone table, £5 from a car boot. This is going to be a project for when I start an upholstery course in September, and will be inspired by this chair:

Must stop procrasta-blogging now and get back to work, so that I can allow myself to do some procrasta-baking later on!

Home is where your stuff is...

I really like this print from heatherfuture on etsy. I think the girl is actually me? I have that exact camera and a very similar tea cup. Maybe I should get that purple hat? I'm definitely considering purchasing the print though.

What Party?

I just found a supremely good embodier on etsy.

I'm sooooo tempted by the kangeroo one. Red and green should never be seen.
I just bought myself this sewing box though, should i really keep spending on random things i really don't need at all and have nowhere to put? Hmmmm

Gitte Kongstad

I got the 'IKEA Family Life' magazine through my door a couple of weeks ago, and there was a piece in it showing the apartment of Gitte Kongstad. I love her! She lives by the sea, an hour out of Copenhagen and her motto is "ye older, ye more wild!". Her house is so colourful, it's brilliant.

"For me, development and change are fundamental to life. This is how I live. Active, engaged, trying out new ideas and often moving on to the next one even if the last is unfinished. The result can be chaos as I am messy by nature. I have learned to live with my 'disorder' by creating systems so I can find every little thing."

"Using the curtain string as a picture rail lets me change photos without having to make more holes in the wall."

"I've put noticeboards up all around my apartment - by the front door, in the guest room, study and living room. Who can hold all the information they need in their head? A noticeboard is an effective and attractive prompt."

" Humour in design is wonderful. The purple shelves behind my dining table are full of things with humour. Practical solutions can also look good - I play with shelves, turning my things into displays I can change as I like."

Fur message boards.

Genius idea. Fur message boards.

"an easy, intuitive, and fun way to express ideas, leave messages and play,
just by simply dragging your finger trough the fur you leave a trail, a drawing..."

USB Typewriter!

Ohhhh my lord, look at this! A USB typwriter!!!

I own a small cream typewriter that I keep next to my bed so i can type things when I suddenly think of something I need not to forget when I'm snoozing, but that pails into insignificance when I think that I could actually do all my typing on this beautiful blue machine.

I'm almost tempted to spend a chunk of my student loan on this (£330, not cheap for what is essentially a computer keyboard) but I don't even use a computer, I'm a laptop person. Failllll.

Holly Dyment

Some 'future house' inspiration - Holly Dyment, a 25 year old interior designer who seems to be quite well known in Canada. She is trained graphic designer and famous for her use of colour and i love her work!
